Board of Education decides to demolish the "Old Schoolhouse"...

     Perrysburg's "Old Schoolhouse" will suffer the same fate as several other historic buildings in our community as the Board of Education has decided to demolish it despite Historic Perrysburg's efforts to convince them to preserve it. The board's plan will create "green space" where the building now stands and will renovate the 1931 High School Building into administrative office space and space for community organizations and events. 

     Although the plan presented indicated that there would be no commercial development of the property, the plan does not include any statement that it is the Board's intention that the property would never be sold for that purpose. Such a statement of intention would be very beneficial to concerned citizens.

    While we are quite disappointed in the Board's decision to demolish the 1894 "Old Schoolhouse", we are ready to participate in the community meetings they have proposed to make the land and remaining buildings of "Commodore Square" a true community asset that will forever remain in the public domain.
